Purse Frames for Allegra Wallet
My next pattern, the Allegra Wallet, is about to go to testers, and will be ready to publish in early March. Like my other patterns that require frames, I thought I would write a blog post on choosing frames for this pattern.
This wallet can also be made with a zipper. I know a lot of people are intimidated by frames, and I wanted to provide an alternate option.
If you are using a frame, you can use two sizes, 8” x 3”, or 4.5” x 3” (20.5 x 7.5 cm or 11.5 x 7.5 cm). I give instructions in the pattern on adjusting it to fit a different size frame. However, I would not recommend deviating very much from the suggested dimensions. Don’t choose a frame more than 1/2” longer or shorter in length. You can choose a frame of up to 1” shorter and 1/2” taller. Keep in mind that the finished result will not be the same as if you use the recommended sizes. The height dimension is calculated from the bottom of the hinge to the top of the frame.
Make sure you buy the correct style of frame. It should have a three sided channel, not just a channel at the top, not a straight frame, and not a curved frame.
You can buy a glue-in or sew-in frame, as the pattern gives instructions for both.
As for where to buy the frames, I’m going to actually point you to a blog post I made last year for the Lyla May Handbag. There are likely other sources as well, but those are the ones I researched last year, so they should be fairly up-to-date.
