New Pattern: Scotia Satchel

It’s time for a new pattern! I must be going for alliteration. My last pattern was the Slimline Sling and this one is the Scotia Satchel!

This design originated from a custom order for a friend. She asked me to make her a custom bag back in November or so. I told her I had to get through stocking season first, and that I would then work on it after the holidays. I don’t make many custom orders anymore, but I’ve made several things for this friend and I’m always willing to make her things, if I’m able. I made her an awesome plague doctor mask for Halloween a few years ago!

She asked for a sporran-style bag to wear while riding her bike, and asked for more pockets than her current bag. The ability to wear it around her waist or over her shoulder was also important. I made a mockup, and my daughter loved it so much that I made the next test version for her.

My friend loved the fabric and color scheme so much that I used them as well for her final version.

In the process I decided it would make a great pattern for my shop and developed it in both a smaller and larger version. Today is the release date, and it’s on sale all weekend through Monday for 25% off!

The Scotia Satchel comes in three sizes, with an outer pocket and two inside pockets. Wear it over your shoulder, across your body, or around your waist! The outside binding may look intimidating, but I walk you through two different ways to do the binding that are not scary and have great results. The pattern has videos for every step. It’s domestic friendly (just be cautious of the thickness of your fabric choices) and the pattern has instructions for two different ways to sew the gusset, depending on if your fabric can stretch on the bias or not.

When you purchase, you will receive a zipped file that has three files inside. The standard file has letter/A4 (for printing from your home computer) as well as the instructions. You can also download the A0 copyshop file as well as a projector file for those sewists who like to sew using a projector. I just recently bought a projector, and it’s a totally cool way to sew that was surprisingly affordable. I will have to make a post specifically about it.

You can buy it on sale through Monday. Now, please enjoy pictures from my testers! Also, check out their linked social media.
